OMOTOSO FIRST BIG STEP TO THE BIG TIME - Knox Netball Centre 19th March 2010
By Murray Thomson (Oct 01, 2009)

OMOTOSO VS DURAN

KNOX NETBALL CENTRE

DEMPSTER STREET, FERNTREE GULLY

19TH MARCH 2010

Unbeaten Wale Omotoso takes his biggest step towards a higher World Ranking and the World Title honours when he takes on Ramon Duran of the Dominican Republic at the Knox Netball Centre on March 19th.

Omotoso, who now boasts a professional record of 16 bouts, 16 wins (14 KO’s) is also the reigning OPBF Welterweight Champion and former Australian Welterweight Champion. Now, with his eyes firmly set on big fights in the US, it is important who Omotoso fights and Duran will be a test as he has a record of 20 wins against 3 losses and has fought in the US himself and is known and respected. How Omotoso performs against Duran will be a big indicator of things to come.

Ramon Duran is the first of hopefully many imported fighters to come to Australia to fight Omotoso. It is the quality of Duran, who has a decent record and KO percentage, that Omotoso must fight to gain the experience and ranking that he needs to get to the top and it is believed by many boxing experts that he can reach the top.

Unbeaten Susie Ramadan (12-0) will be in the fight of her life when she fights Maria Jose Nunez of Argentina in an official WBC World Title eliminator. The winner of this fight will be in line to fight WBC Women’s Bantamweight Champion of the World Vsanakorn Kokietgym of Thailand. So this is a huge opportunity for Ramadan and Nunez, and both will obviously be trying hard to win.

Nunez has a record of 10 wins (8 KO) against 7 losses and has the experience of fighting in someone else’s backyard and also fighting for a WBC title.

As a special feature attraction, unbeaten Nigerian Light Middleweight King Davidson will take on Lee Otti of New Zealand over 8 rounds.

Otti is tough and rugged and will push Davidson ensuring it will be one hell of a good fight.

Also on the undercard is another quality international match up between Belgium’s Hoyhannes Zhankochyan and former Wold Champsion Kongthwat Sorkitti of Thailand and that will be an “all guns” blazing affair for sure.

Dennis Okcal takes on Damon Hoole over 4 rounds and Cruiserweights Stephen Gillingham and Hunter Sam will also slug it out over 4 rounds.

The doors open at 6:30pm with the action starting at 7:30pm. The night is fully licensed and promises to be a top night of quality International boxing.
